Parental Leave Should be Permanent
I'm about to start my last of 4 consecutive weeks of parental leave (then I'll be doing intermittent weeks off). It's awesome. I'm legitimately considering a sabbatical from work during my kids' younger years for more of these "good ol' days" vibes. Last couple of days have been fun, difficult, and sweet. Phoebe is still taking to being a big sister. Grant is eating and puking like crazy but he seems happy about it haha. We went swimming today. Here are some photos. ...

Let me know what you think about the new platform I'm using! Corey Full Album Select Photos ...

Good News x2!
We received two pieces of good news about our next child. First we found out that a previous test that showed a possible genetic abnormality wasn't one, it was one of Jenna's genes and she's fine! Second, we're having a boy! This image is after we got home, we wait to open the envelope since Mimi, Sophie, and Riley were visiting so we all found out together. The bad news is that I've been calling the baby "Otis" and Jenna apparently thought I was kidding about that name. She's not on board. So u...

AI Scams on the Rise
This is a short and off-topic post but it's important. If you haven't noticed, AI is getting more and more sophisticated. People are using it to talk/act like loved ones pretending to be in harm's way, kidnapped, etc and extorting money out of people. It's happened to people I know. If you get a call or text like this, don't believe it. Spoofing numbers is easy, so are voices and mannerisms. Soon, live video. Ask personal questions that only that person would know. Don't send them money. St...

Hello everyone, I had to rebuild my cloud and all the links are new so some of the previous posts won't have any pictures or videos. For now, check out some new stuff! For our anniversary, the three of us went to the beach and had a picnic where we got married. Phoebe took her first steps. We got a new fancy couch that we had to build from Lovesac. Lots of other stuff happened too. Check out the whole album here. Tap the 4 squares in the upper right corner to view as a grid instead of a list....

Hello everyone, Still working on a rhythm for this blog and the best way to set it up. It seems the last post, with just a link to the album, wasn't working well for a couple of people. I think the Safari browser doesn't let you scroll through the album so try chrome or firefox. To make things easier, I decided to include more photos and videos in the post as well but not everything, so you'll still need to view a Nextcloud album folder. I also noticed old posts aren't working well because ...

March Updates
I keep telling myself I'm going to sit down and write a decent post haha. Since that doesn't seem to be happening, I shouldn't let that prevent me from releasing some lovely Phoebs photos. I'm testing a new way to share them by using a self-hosted cloud server. We went to the Carlsbad Flower fields, the rest are just from messing around the house. Enjoy! Screaming and Giggling
Holidays are a whirlwind, even moreso with a man-cub in tow. Even though I've been taking every other week off for parental leave, we're all super busy (in a good way). I took Jenna to a magic show for her birthday, we celebrated bdays for Brent and Sophie too. We went to a Christmas eve-eve party, hosted Christmas eve, and had Christmas brunch at Jenna's parents house. Phoebe's 4 month checkup had her above the 90th percentile for all measurements. She's the absolute unit, haha. All of t...

I am a very stable genius
We had a nice thanksgiving that we hosted, it also happened to be Phoebs 3 months, but now 4 months is very close also! I've been lacking on blog posts. I'm about half way through my stint of working every other week. I've been getting small things done around the house here and there, and I'm also working on starting a business (details tbd). Most importantly, I've learned I'll be good at retirement, cant wait. Jenna was able to confirm a part time schedule when she starts back in January....

Time is a construct
Yep, that's me, you're probably wondering how I ended up in this situation Phoebe is 6 days old, yet somehow Jenna and I have both aged a decade. She's actually an angel. We're getting a lot better at giving her what she needs to avoid crying, which usually means a feedin' or a swaddlin'. The challenging thing is all the new stuff we gotta learn. I was hoping to just get by on my dad strength and endurance, but social studies? division? This is gonna be tough! We've had a couple hard d...

Busy Week
It's been a busy week! Had my work happy hour on Monday, doctor appt Tuesday, dinner with Kerri for her bday Wednesday, my Bitcoin meetup Thursday, Jenna's last day at work Friday, and my interview for a podcast on Saturday. Sunday will be a belated bday lunch and soccer. The meetup on Thursday went pretty well! I gave a presentation on running a Bitcoin node and using it to create a Dead Man's Switch. Bubbles, Floaties, and Soccer Balls
Fantastic weekend. I've been drinking a ton of seltzer with my new soda stream. Jenna asked me how much is too much and I have no clue so hmu if you know. I refuse to use google. We spent Sunday afternoon in Oakley and Ashlei (and Max's) pool. It's rare we get to see them two days in a row, so that was cool. Oakley's parents brought some delicious ceviche which went great with the White Claws I was drinking. I've known Oakley since 2005, we met in the dorms at SDSU. It only took 17 years for u...

Day of Birth
Mine, not Phoebe's. Yesterday we had a few people over for food and drink to celebrate my bday. In true Edwards fashion, we didn't take any pictures but we had a great time. Jenna made a cheesecake that was a hit (I regret sharing it). It was the most people we've had at our place, and it didn't feel too crowded. We put our patio furniture to good use and tested our fancy mosquito trap (I think it worked haha). Rosie was a little over excited when the first guests got here, and was insistin...

Pool Day!
Yesterday we went to our friend Kerri's pool with my nieces Sophie and Riley. It was a blast! Jenna loves just floating in the pool these days, it relieves a lot of the pressure of being 36 weeks pregnant. The girls made a friend with one of the other residents, they're so personable. The adults were wishing we were that friendly at that age. After the pool I took Rosie for our daily run. I took a video of us going at a decent clip. Bacon Brings the Family Together
Telehealth is cool I've had some pain and redness on my foot for 3 weeks. It seemed like an injury but I definitely didn't hurt myself, it even started during a week where I didn't have soccer. This was my third chance to use my insurance's telehealth program (the first two were when I had covid in May). Unlike the urgent care down the street which is always busy and has a maximum number of covid patients they will take in any given day, I have always been seen immediately via telehealth. Th...

Trusts and Ice Cream
I've been reading CA's trust laws for a couple weeks and finally finished. I wish I had known how DIY they could be! I made a tweet thread about what I learned (tl;dr you don't need a lawyer to make a trust, and they prevent the need for courts after you die, a will doesn't do that). On Sunday, Jenna and I got Board and Brew with our friends Jenni and Matt. It was good to chat, we haven't seen them in a while. I didn't get a photo though, sadly. Today we went to Handel's down the street to get...

This is a thing Welcome to the Edwards Family blog. I've been using Standard Notes for keeping track of info, journaling, etc. for about a year. It's similar to Apple's notes app or Evernote except that it's open source and end-to-end encrypted. There are some neat features, though, that allow you to share info, like this blog! Since I'm not on social media and we're about to have our little girl soon, I thought it would be good if there was a way I could broadcast updates to close friends a...
